Interior repaints, from patching to clean lines

What goes into an interior repaint in Tyler: protecting floors and furniture, patching walls, cutting clean lines at ceilings and trim, and full coats.

An interior repaint looks like the simplest job in painting, and a lot of it is. The difference between a room that looks right and one that looks rushed is in the details people only notice when they are wrong: a wavy line where the wall meets the ceiling, paint on the trim, a patch that shows through, drips on the floor.

Protecting the room

Before a can is opened, we set the room up. Furniture gets moved to the middle of the room or out of it and covered, and floors get drop cloths. Switch plates and outlet covers come off, and anything that stays in place gets masked. It takes time, and it is what lets you walk back into the room without finding paint where it should not be.

Patching and sanding

Fresh paint shows damage instead of hiding it, especially with light coming across the wall from a window. So the walls get looked over in good light first. Nail holes, dents, dings from furniture and cracks at corners get patched, and damaged drywall gets repaired. Patches are sanded smooth and spot-primed so they do not show through the new color as dull or shiny spots.

This is also when we look at the trim. Gaps between trim and wall get caulked, so the paint line has a clean, tight edge to follow.

Cutting clean lines

The line at the ceiling, along the baseboards and around doors and windows is where an interior paint job gets judged. We cut those lines with a brush, and use tape where it makes a line cleaner, not as a substitute for a steady hand. Walls get rolled after the edges are cut, keeping a wet edge so the finish dries even without lap marks.

Then come the coats. A color change, a dark color going light, or a wall with fresh patches usually needs more than one. We apply the number of coats the product needs for full, even coverage, not one fewer, and we will tell you at the estimate what your room will take. If you are still choosing a color, bring us the ones you are considering and we will tell you how they are likely to look in your room’s light.

One room is fine

You do not need to be painting the whole house to call us. Single rooms, accent walls, ceilings, trim only, a rental turnover between tenants: whatever the job is. The full list of what we paint, inside and out, is on our painting services page.

When we can, we leave the room ready to move back into the same day. Before we leave, we check every wall with you in daylight and touch up anything that needs it.
